Charities and Campaigns
There are a number of charities and campaigns which I am or have supported through the generosity of the Fund for the Environment and Urban Life’s Advisors grants scheme. These include:
- Practical Action, where I have supported their renewable energy work in Southern Africa,
- Sustain where I have supported their urban agriculture work,
- Garden Organic where I am supporting their Sowing new seeds project and
- The National Federation of City Farms and Community Gardens whose Allotments Regeneration Initiative I have supported.
In 2010 I focused on raising money for the Bhopal Medical Appeal. Twenty five years after the world’s worst industrial accident I completed the 10k London Run in July to raise funds. Thanks to you I have raised over £1,700. However Dow Chemicals who bought out Union Carbide and have never cleaned up the plant, are sponsors for the London Olympics. Change.org are running a campaign against this which is beginning to have some effect, including the resignation of a senior LOCOG official in protest at the end of January 2012. Keith Vaz MP is sponsoring an EDM (2077) calling for LOCOG to rescind the sponsorship.
